About the Urgence-Biscuits Mobile Cookie Bakery

The Urgence-Biscuits mobile cookie bakery is a reconditioned delivery truck, converted to be an environmentally friendly way of delivering and serving freshly baked cookies and frozen cookie dough to the public.  Built in 1990, used for most of its life in Portland, Oregon as a uniform delivery van, the truck was purchased late in 2007 and driven to Montreal by the founder of Monsieur Félix & Mr. Norton.  The truck runs on clean-burning propane, which gives off far less emissions than other fossil fuels.

Over the winter months, the truck was completely outfitted with all the equipment necessary to bake and serve fresh warm cookies to the public.  It is installed with a propane oven, hot and cold running water, heating and air conditioning, freezer, refrigerator, coffee machine, cash register, wireless credit card terminal, TV, DVD, audio system, wireless microphone, Apple TV, propane generator and more.  Rooftop solar panels provide the energy necessary to power almost all of the appliances as well as all lighting.  The generator or an outside electrical source is required only to occasionally power the freezer and the air conditioning system when absolutely necessary.

With a capacity to bake over 1,000 cookies per hour, the mobile cookie bakery will be appearing at many festivals, as well as other events including charity drives, corporate events, private parties and local promotions.

Our commitment to the environment

The founders of Monsieur Félix & Mr. Norton have always been active in the community.  Particular support has always been given to youth education and mentorship.  By partnering with ENvironnement  JEUnesse, the owners are happy to help this organization find new ways to encourage young people to pay more attention to issues that will have a great impact on their future.  The mobile cookie bakery will serve as an attraction to garner the public’s attention to these issues; a showpiece with examples of actual ways we can reduce our impact on the ecosystem; and as a fundraiser to assist in the development of programs to educate the public.

About propane as an alternative fuel:

It is Clean Propane is clean burning. In times heavily burdened by environmental concerns, propane stands above most fuels and can compete with the cleanest. It is clean burning because of its simple chemical make-up. When properly mixed with air to form a combustible mixture, it produces virtually no soot (particulate matter), low carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and oxides of nitrogen (NOx), which are the basic precursors of ozone sometimes known as ‘smog’. Because propane is stored and transported under modest pressure; the transportation and storage system is closed to the atmosphere, preventing any evaporative emissions. In the event of a leak, propane readily vaporizes and therefore doesn’t contaminate aquifers or soil as do most liquid fuels. When measured through the total fuel cycle (from production to end use) propane impacts greenhouse gas emissions less than any other fossil fuel!
